Understanding Lyme Disease and Epstein-Barr Virus: Immune Challenges

Jun 22, 2023 | Articles

Melissa Olson, ND, recently shared insights during a DesBio webinar on two significant immune challenges: Lyme disease and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). The discussion underlined the shared attributes, unique differences, and some suggested protocols for these conditions.

Understanding Lyme Disease and Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV):

Lyme disease and EBV, though different in their nature (one being bacterial/parasitic, the other viral), share several characteristics that make them immune system challenges. Both can exist covertly in biofilms, are common and pervasive, prefer the liver and thyroid as host organs, can go dormant and re-emerge after stress, thrive in toxic chemical/heavy metal-laden tissue, disrupt immune function, and impact your methylation cycle.

Lyme disease, caused by several strains of Borrelia (with five strains of Borrelia Burgdorferi and over 100 other Borrelia strains), manifests symptoms that range from flu-like feelings and mood dysregulation to joint pain and cognitive decline. It can be contracted through pests, pets, people, and in utero. The manifestation of symptoms depends on the person’s immune system strength, methylation status, and the specific strain contracted.

Similarly, EBV, a herpetic virus, can cause symptoms like swollen glands, chronic fatigue, headaches, low-grade fever, and anxiety. Transmission often occurs through contact with bodily fluids, especially saliva, blood, and semen. As with Lyme, symptom manifestation depends on the person’s immune strength, methylation status, and the specific strain of EBV.

Addressing Lyme and EBV

Key to both Lyme and EBV is understanding that the conditions can be addressed using a multi-faceted approach including enzymes, herbs, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, nosodes, and DesBio’s Smart Silver. The protocol begins with DesBio’s Comprehensive Detox Kit which temporarily relieves symptoms related to blockage of drainage pathways in the body, followed by the SSR protocol to temporarily relieve symptoms related to EBV or Lyme. To address biofilms, consider using enzymes or Smart Silver and prioritize mitochondrial health using the Replenish protocol for methylation support.

Increasing trace minerals such as copper, cobalt, and manganese for energy reserves and temporarily relieving emotions that emerge through DesBio products like Energize, Elevate, or Anxious can also be beneficial. Adding binders for metabolic waste and pathogen byproducts ToxAffix and herbal support with ContraVirus and PathoGuard can further support the healing process.

Practical Case Studies

Two case studies were presented that showcased how DesBio products can be integrated into a protocol for a person with EBV and Lyme. Both cases demonstrated the necessity of a personalized approach, starting with a comprehensive detox and utilizing a variety of products to address individual symptom manifestations.

Takeaway

Both Lyme disease and EBV are complex conditions with wide-ranging impacts on a person’s health. DesBio’s range of products may serve as part of a comprehensive protocol to support individuals dealing with these conditions.
